Q: What is it? A: A not so hyped but very conveniently located hotel in the Miami South Beach district. Did I mention that it also comes with a relatively humane price tag?
The Townhouse shouldn’t be awarded three stars.
This hotel is worth more than that. But July may not be the best season for visiting Miami South Beach. No, it’s not a deserted place but many hotels are hibernating in the moist and the heat, downsizing their business to a minimum (and lowering their rates). An example of such a downsize is the roof terrace at The Townhouse. In December it’s a place where tanned women in cocktail dresses will perform mating dances with males in expensive shirts (and too many buttons unbuttoned). Now it’s a sad, empty space with red pillows that are getting naturally bleached by the sun and daily rain showers.
What’s up with the staff?
The slow season seems to affect the staff as well. They seem less than motivated. The bell boy doesn’t care if guests are coming or going. The reception is stressed out and apparently focusing their attention on their own schedule rather than helping their guests.
But The Townhouse have good things to offer. a) Location. This is the right spot for those who want to go hunting in the section of Collins Avenue that starts with The Setai in the north, continues with The Shore Club and The Raleigh and ends at the Delano. b) The price tag. The Townhouse is not an expensive place. Not for being Miami. c) Rooms are better than expected. The iPod dock works and everything is kept clean and tidy. d) The Bond St. restaurant have good things on the menu if you like to eat Japanese.
The Townhouse may not be a place to write home about.
Just look around you. The Townhouse is not as spectacular as any of its extravagant neighbours, nor is it as exclusive. It’s just a very decent hotel, better than expected, although lacking a bit of charisma. But when being pleasantly surprised when reviewing that bill, I will not raise my voice to complain. No way.
